Hubbard Basin Petrified Wood: This is a most unusual specimen of petrified wood from one of the most prized wood deposits ever discovered, the Hubbard Basin deposit in Northern Nevada. The spectacular marbling colors of lavender, blue, white, with red and gold are the result of the different minerals which colored the silica during the petrification. At work were the pigments of iron, copper, cobalt, manganese and silicon dioxide which have created a wonderful artist’s palette of color in this lovely specimen. Some of the blues are actually translucent, and a little time with a magnifying glass will open up the fascinating world within. The Hubbard Basin deposit is believed to be depleted, thus making these petrified woods even more valuable and highly collectable.
